Selecting your proper helmet size can be a daunting task.  The single biggest mistake we have seen, is that when a person is buying their first or even second helmet, they often buy it "too big".  With the information below, we hope that this will help you make the right decision on what size to get.  But as we always suggest – nothing beats trying it on for the right size (so if you can, come in and try them on).  We know different brands and models even different “fits” you might say, so just because you have had the same brand before, that doesn't always guarantee that your new helmet will be the right fit for you.  So it is always best to come in store and make sure it is right for you before buying, because as you know "helmet can NOT be returned once they leave the store".

A lot of people will tell you to measure your head circumference one inch above the eyebrows around to the largest point on the back of your head and suggest to round up to the larger size when your measurement is between two sizes.  Now that is all good and well. But what we have found is that you can have 2 different people with the same “measurement”, but their head shapes can be quite different.  One might be more of a round shape and the other might be more of longer oval shape.  So as above, it is best to come in and try it on for size, but we also know that that is not always possible for country, interstate or foreign buyers.

Your helmet should fit snugly and squarely on your head.  Make sure that it is not tilted too far back or forward on your head.  The cheek pads should touch your cheeks and be a rather firm fit, as these will tend to mould/shape to your face with time.  You need to make sure there are no gaps around your temple, brow or back of the head.  Now providing there is no pain or excessive pressure and that you have tried on both sizes above and below what you think is a good fit, you should have the correct size.  Don’t be shocked to discover that it might not be the “cm” your head size measures.

HELMET FIT CHECK:

·         Your helmet should fit snugly and squarely on your head.

·         Make sure that it is not tilted too far back or forward on your head.

·         Cheek pads touch and a firm fit.

·         Make sure there are no gaps around your temple, brow or back of the head.

·         With the straps securely fastened, shake your head slightly from side to side and back and forth.  If it moves or feels loose, then it is too big (also remember that the comfort liner will compress a little with use, so a new helmet should fit as tight as you can comfortably wear).

·         Check for any excessive pressure spots.

·         Check for any soreness or red spots after you remove the helmet. If you find any, try the next size up or a different model. All brands fit a little different, so try on multiple styles for the best fit.
